Today more and more people want to take the “Go to” out of that phrase. Working from home is the dream job many have set as their goal. Better yet, being their own boss AND earning money from home is a highly sought after lifestyle.
The good news is that more and more people are making that a reality. The bad news is that many are influenced by late night commercials & internet schemes laden with empty promises. They believe that they will make millions putting in only a few hours a week. That is baloney.
I want to share some sage wisdom (you can only get that by being on the planet for awhile-I qualify). The truth of the matter is that in order to be successful either in business or as an employee, w-o-r-k plays a vital role. Whether at home or punching a time clock, you still have to put in a lot of effort to be successful.
Why do people want to work from home?
I know there are a lot of stay at home moms who have chosen to make mothering their primary career at this point in their lives. I also know there are a lot of baby boomers who have reached a point in their lives where they want to do something meaningful, that they love. Many people want the convenience of an at home job. Lots of folks see the need to conserve our natural resources and realize that it helps the planet to when you eliminate a commute.
Whatever your reason, if you landed here you may count yourself among many who are seeking a viable solution to generate money from home. I have spent a lot of time trying to find the right fit for myself. I can tell you I fell victim to more than a few of the “scams” – those are included in the lesson plans of the School of Hard Knocks.
I finally took what I knew and went and did it-from home. I don’t want to over simplify a pretty complicated subject, but the truth of the matter is that I did it. I was good at baking, did what it took to be able to legally do that at home and it was a good fit for me. You can read more about that on my about me page if you want to.
The point here is that each and every one of us already has what it takes, we just need to focus in on that special talent and then put in a lot of effort to make the dream a reality. That is the key to success.
So, can you really make money from home? Sure you can, I did it and I know you can too if you are willing to do what it takes. I remember I had a teacher once a long time ago who always said “plan your work and work your plan” As a seventh grader I rolled my eyes at that saying more times than I can count. It is surprising my eyes are still aligned correctly.
Now I know that was brilliant advice! So, my plan for this site is to help you solve the puzzle of how can you can make your living from home.. I know for a fact that becoming a life long learner is a cornerstone. There is a solution to most challenges, you just have to know where to find it.
When I realized that I the catering company was no longer the best fit for me or my family, I went through the process of facing the fact that technology would have to play a big part of what I wanted to do. The problem was that I knew nothing about it. I had to decide that to overcome that hurtle and move forward. I did it and want to encourage you to start training for hurtle jumping.
Working from home requires planning
I know of no “one size fits all” solution. Take a good look at you. I would suggest you ask yourself the following questions.
- what are you passionate about
- what do you know
- what are willing to learn
- how much time to you have to invest
- how much money do you have to invest
- are you willing to put in a lot of effort
Those answers will be different for each of us. We all have our own special talents, that is just the way it is. If you are wanting something that is ready to go, I developed a special business model for a part time home based business. I ran a corporate catering company from home for ten years. I have more than a little bit of experience under my belt as a business owner and a baker. Because of that, I decided to teach others who would like to make a part time income from a home based business. I know that baking is certainly not for everyone. To be honest, I have discovered a passion I never would have believed I would have. I have spent the last two years learning how to use WordPress, I now have had my peers asking me for help. The great part about it is that I have a blast helping others who don’t even know what questions to ask. I have been there, done that, got the t-shirt. So often I desperately just wished that there was someone I could call to help get me unstuck so I could move on.
I want to encourage all of you to find that thing that really gets you excited when you think about it. . So often new products come to the market because someone needed something they couldn’t find, or they knew they could improve something.
